Last Tuesday, October 14th, our Senior Girls Volleyball team had the chance to play the Eagles in the West Gym at 8 pm. Excitement was in the air, with the Sundevil's supporters - parents, siblings and a group of Grade 12 boys at the back - cheering on every point. As predicted, we beat the AAA team in three-straight wins, them, the majority of the time, getting half the amount of points we got. Maria Starko even made a surprise appearance, playing the last few points of the last game, after suffering an ankle injury.
It's obvious our team deserves the challenge of playing at an AAAA level, but because we don't meet the minimum amount of Grade 11 and 12 female students enrolled at our school by 6 students, we are unable to play. This ruling was created to prevent schools from taking in only the best volleyball players instead of a wide variety of students to give their team an unfair advantage. Though Mr. Burgess tried to argue this ruling over the summer, his attempt was unfortunately revoked by the council.
The next and last home game for the Sundevils is next Tuesday, October 21st at 6:30 pm against the DSS Pacers in the West Gym.
