For the month of January, The SDSS “Me to We Club” held a battery drive.
Over 2000 used household alkaline batteries were collected. Did you know that zinc from batteries helps saves lives? Many children in third world countries do not get enough zinc in their diets, BUT one AA battery contains enough zinc to save six children with life threatening zinc deficiencies. Recycled batteries go to a sorting facility where the materials, chemicals and metals, including zinc, are extracted and reused. Thanks SDSS for supporting our Battery Drive and helping the health of students in third world communities.
