![]() The South Delta Sun Devils had the chance to play the No. 1 ranked high school in the province this Saturday, October 12th, 2013 at 2 pm. The defending B.C. "AAA" champions, the Mt. Doug Rams came all the way from Victoria to play our home team after winning against Vancouver College 42 - 21. They outranked us in size, speed and skill, keeping their perfect record of no losses by winning the game 56 - 20. The game started off with the Rams winning the coin toss, choosing to allow the Sun Devils to receive the ball. During the first quarter, Bryce Connors (#23) scored a touchdown but that was rapidly one-upped by the Rams who managed to get three, one easily made by a sloppy play on the Sun Devils part where one of our passes was intercepted by the opposition's player. The second quarter began just as poorly after the Rams made another two touchdowns, injuring one of our players, Will Traynick (#8). Slowly, the Sun Devils started to come back as Bryce Connors (#23) made another touchdown from our 20 yard line after receiving a pass from our quarterback, Lucas Kirk (#9), making the score 35 - 13. The Rams made yet another touchdown and their kicker, Callum Duke, once again kicked the ball to the end zone, starting the Sun Devils off at the 20 yard line once more. Though we received two 5 yard penalties, our team somehow managed to bounce back after Bryce Connors (#23) caught a pass 20 yards away. Lucas Kirk (#9) then ran the last 20 yards to the end zone, making our third and final touchdown in this game. The Rams then made two more touchdowns, moving us into the third quarter of the game. They continued to target our quarterback, Lucas Kirk (#9), adding even more pressure to the Sun Devils offensive team. The last half ended with no more touchdown as the Sun Devils defensive team put on the brakes to anymore humiliation, leaving the score at 56 - 20. Though we didn't play at our best, perhaps still recovering from what the Delta Optimist called a sloppy performance against the Holy Cross Crusaders last week, former Sun Devils' football players still came to watch and cheer on the team. We return to the regular season games next week by playing the Seaquam Seahawks in a home game. Aamenah Meghjee
