South Delta Secondary is on a roll with both the Grade 8 Boys Sundevils and the Girls Shedevils winning their very first game only a couple of days ago. The Grade 8 Boys beat North Surrey easily with a 53 - 0 win. Players who scored include Jack Fayle with 3 tries and 2 converts, Stefanos Goulas with 2 tries, Stefanos Chountalos with 2 tries, Sean Cochrane with 1 try, Grant McDonald with 2 converts. Then, a day after the Girls Shedevils played Kwantlen Park and beat them 12 - 10. The two tries were scored by Cailean Meredith and Dakota Dolfo-Smith.
Rugby is a form of football named after the Rugby School in the United Kingdom which is where legend says it originated. The point is of it is to get the ball over the line without passing forward, making the players either run with the ball or kick it. For those of you who don't know (I didn't!), the main method of scoring, a try, is when a player touches the ball to the ground with a downward pressure behind the goal line. It results in 5 points. After this, the scoring team has the chance to convert, meaning they can get 2 more points by kicking the ball through the posts above the crossbar, just like football. Both teams' next games are after Spring Break! See you there! Aamenah Meghjee
