Extravaganza 2014 was a great hit starting off with the school's first lip dub to “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. Then, the MC Crew, Elissa Morgan, Rachel Ruecker, Emma White, Hailea Caldwell, Thea Wessler and Will Shelling, performed their skit about how two sisters wanted to start a gift-giving holiday but were rejected by the Devils' Den, otherwise know as Dragons' Den, this year's theme for the show.
After the quick introduction, the performers came on one by one, each performance showing off their talent to SD with the first performers being Shu Yi Li and Constance Tam on the guitar. Then, Bryn Willis in Grade 8 sung Lorde's Royals, with the help of the audience who sung some background vocals, making it a really, fun performance. Afterwards, Owen Forster played a guitar solo before the rest of his group, Will Shelling, Ben Tetzel, Jaden Bach, Mitchell Farquharson and Sam Cummings, joined him to sing "Hotel California" by the Eagles. Some other performances were duets or solo and some were groups of talented students showing off their amazing skill at performing arts. The talents varied from one performer to the next and each performance unique in their own outstanding way with even some outstanding tap dancing routines by Amy Bell and Liam Swayze. After tap dancing, a group took to the stage with two backgound singers, Sara Glennon and Kate Yahn, and five dancers to sing "Something's Got a Hold of Me" by Christina Aguilera. Then, another student sung "Sweater Weather" before Sara Glennon sung "Feeling Good" with the band and Hailea Caldwell on the piano. Then, Alex Vaitkus performed a guitar solo before another student danced to an awesome hip hop routine. After another skit from the MC Crew, where the sisters, after being shut down by Thea Wessler once again, get one last chance to make their holiday a success, Jazz band and then, Ben Tetzel and Riley Mydansky singing "Robots" performed. Then, a student sung and played the piano to "Medecine" while Maddie Burnett danced. Then, a duet, including Hunter Lang, to "I see Fire" was performed with a background of fire and smoke and Kate Yahn performed "Maybe This Time" with help from Mrs. Hamilton on the piano. After, a student performed "Little Talks" by Of Monsters And Men before the Staff Band took to the stage. Finally, the Quatratonix took to the stage with their clapping routine and then the long awaited Connor Nelson performed, with loud cheers from the audience. Extravaganza was so amazing that their even had to be a live stream for family and friends to watch! The link to the live stream is: http://new.livestream.com/accounts/6468867/events/3663507 Extravaganza was an amazing show to end the day before the holidays! Students were in awe of their peers’ talents and quickly discovered the many talents SD has! To end the spectacular show after the Choir performed, our new principal, Mr. Ainge, finished with the grand finale of Extravaganza by rapping about his background, a parody to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song. All the staff poured out onto the stage and danced enthusiastically to the beat. And with that, possibly the best Extravaganza so far ended the last day of school before the holidays. Special thanks all the staff and students for making Extravaganza possible and a big thanks to Mme Olsen who always runs Extravaganza. “Aw, it’s September again, time for school” -Students “Oh, it’s September already! Time for Extravaganza!” -Mme Olsen Jinda Zhao
