![]() Sciences Humaines 11 students were in for a treat after Mme. Ferrari invited Vicki Huntington, Delta South's representative at the Legislative Assembly, Wednesday, September 25th, into their classes. As the students were studying the government structure, she started off by explaining her position as an Independent. Speaking on her motive to become an Independent, Ms. Huntington said "As an Independent, my issue was governance, it wasn't power... so I can devote myself to issues of democracy." Currently, a lot of her time is focused on the issue of decreasing agricultural land due to the high position Delta holds with migratory birds. At the moment, Delta has the highest concentration of raptors in all of Canada but, according to Ms. Huntington, we're in danger of starving them out. She hopes to develop a coalition about these problems. Another approaching issue she was asked about is that of the future Tsawwassen mall. "I think our businesses [will] have to create very sharp destinations to attract people," she replied, "It would be very sad if Tsawwassen and Ladner became a ghost town." She also mentioned that the owners of the mall were reconsidering its construction but it is unclear as to whether they will change their minds. Senior students have the chance to join Ms. Huntington in the Delta South Legislative Youth Advisory Council where they can give her the youth perspective on issues of today.
