This past week, Scotland has taken a bold and much-needed step. They legalized free menstrual products nation-wide. The average female will spend more than 2,500 days or about seven years of their life menstruating. With a pack of tampons costing around 6 dollars, and lasting around two cycles, some people are paying over 36 dollars annually or in 39 years paying close to 1500 dollars.
According to the global children's charity Plan International, 10% of girls across the U.K. cannot afford sanitary products such as pads and tampons, and 15% of girls in the U.K. struggle to afford them. Another 19% of girls in the four nations — Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland — had to use less suitable products because of cost. Just under 50% of girls in the U.K. reported having missed school because of their periods. - Roxie and Liam
