This summer construction will start on a new covered court in Ladner. The City of Delta provided an update this week on the outdoor lacross box in ladner, which will be converted because of a $1 million grant from the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program.
In addition to lacrosse, it will also act as a training facility for sports including baseball and soccer and will include basketball nets for more choices. Work will begin this July, a news release from the city says having a covered outdoor multi-sport court will allow residents who have limited access to indoor spaces and the opportunity to enjoy a variety of recreation opportunities year-round. “Over the past year, we have seen how important outdoor activity is for maintaining physical and mental health and overall well-being. Converting the outdoor lacrosse box into a covered facility will allow sport groups and the public to participate in outdoor activities year-round. It will also be a great facility for trainers and coaches of athletes of all levels,” said Mayor George Harvie. “The City and the region will see many positive benefits from these improvements, and we thank the Province for its investment in our community.” The project is scheduled to be finished by spring 2022.
