On November 8th, many grade 11 students wrote the new literacy assessment to be introduced next year and become a graduation requirement. Much like the numeracy assessment, texts in various formats were given as guidelines for pieces of writing and comparisons. Another group of grade 11 students will be writing the assessment next Wednesday, November 14th. The results of these assessments will help determine the level of difficulty of the actual assessment next year.

On November 9th, South Delta Secondary had a Remembrance Day ceremony to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives. The assembly was very solemn as all the staff and students took time to remember. The choir performed the songs "Sing You Home" and "Stand By Me," which set the perfect tone. The students that performed took great thought and care with the nature of the ceremony. Everyone left reflecting, feeling grateful and remembering.
Today is Diwali, a Hindu celebration of victory over evil and light overcoming darkness. To celebrate this people light clay pots, filled with oil and a wick, called diyas and put them all around their house to bring light to each of the rooms. The SDSS cafeteria sold aloo gobi as a nod to the festival. I can't wait to celebrate with my family. Happy Diwali Everyone!
