Throughout October, SDSS made a great effort of collecting cans for those in need. With an astonishing number of over 1000 cans, I think we've definitely met our goals. As you know, every block E class was encouraged to bring in their canned goods in the means of a competition between over classes. Ms. Gasper's grade 10 class won with a surprising 883 points! To collect points, the classes had to bring in varieties of different canned, non-perishable goods worth a different number. Cans were worth 3 points, pasta and rice were worth 5 points, coffee and tea were worth 10 points, and peanut butter and jelly were worth 15. Great job, SDSS!

Movember: When girls and women alike look forward to seeing tanned guys with a five o' clock shadow that gives them a sort of bad-boy vibe... But instead see guys with attempted scruff or creepy moustaches that just really are not that attractive. However, it is not an attempt on their part to bring back moustaches that were unfortunately oddly prominent before the twenty-first century. No, Movember is actually a creative idea that raises awareness for men's prostate cancer. Some people do not realize that Movember actually is to raise awareness, because the cause tends to be overshadowed by the fun, and often competitive nature, of who can grow the best moustache. What is Prostrate cancer? Prostrate cancer is a cancer in men that begins as a tumour in the prostrate, which is below the bladder. It's the most common cancer in men - specifically Canadian men. The older the man, the higher the risk of being diagnosed with prostrate cancer. Prostrate cancer is concerning because often, signs and symptoms do not appear or are not noticed at an early stage in the cancer. This is why Movember is handy: one goal of it is so that guys like you, yes you reading this (and women alike) can educate themselves, and others, on the signs of prostrate cancer and how to prevent it. So what are we doing for Movember at our school? To raise awareness at our school, Student Council began taking photos on November 1st of guys and girls (stick on moustaches = greatest invention since sliced bread) and will continue to track their progress throughout the month of November. If you want to join in on that fun, listen to the announcements to see when Student Council will be taking photos next. Caylie Warkentin expectation vs. reality (errr... kind of)
people scream with absolute terror! Everyone's costumes were great! Don't forget to see your photo in the yearbook!
